Bisi Bele Bath: Traditional Karnataka dish


Bisi Bele Bath: how to make at home




Ingridents:
  • Rice-1 cup 
  • Toor dal- 1 cup 
  • Red chilli powder- 1 tbsp 
  • Coriander powder- 1 tbsp 
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tbsp 
  • Mustard seeds- ½ tbsp 
  • Tamarind- 1 tbsp (soaked in water)
  •  Asafoetida- 1 pinch
  •  Ghee- 3- 4 tbsp
  •  Curry leaves 
  • Salt- To taste
Vegetables
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 18 to 20 french beans
  • ½ cup peas
  • 1 medium onion or 3 to 4 shallots
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1/4cup tamarind juice/pulp
  • 3 tbsp Bisi Bele Bath masala  

Method:
  • Wash the rice and dal thoroughly in running water. Soak rice and dal in water for 1/2 n hours.
  • Now, take a pressure cooker and add ghee into it. Put the soaked rice and dal into it. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder,  salt and asafoetida into the cooker.
  • Then, add the tamarind pulp into the cooker. Add 2 cups of water, add chopped vegetables and bisi bele bath powder  and mix well .  let the mixture cook for 10 to 15 min  in medium flame
  • Heat ghee or oil  in a pan add mustard seeds and then temper the curry leaves, marathi moggu, dry red chilies, cashews and asafoetida till the dry red chilies change color and the cashews turn a light golden. don't burn the spices
  • Pour this tempering in the prepared bisi bele bath. stir and cover the cooker with its lid for about 5 mins..
  • Later serve the bisi bele bath with potato chips /fried papads.
